Today we're celebrating the launch of a new and improved Achievements system on Layer3.
Since we introduced our first set of achievements (for hitting level milestones), one of the most requested things from our community has simply been… add more!
Today is the day for more achievements, as we continue to explore how gamification can enable our mission to build the best web3 discovery platform.
Today’s release expands the Core Achievement system beyond simply Level Milestones
Achievements celebrate your progress on Layer3, showcasing accomplishment and even unlocking special rewards
A new Achievement Page shows what’s available and the next milestone
Today is just the start; more achievements will be added over the coming weeks
Anyone familiar with layer3.xyz will know that gamification plays a big part in our product strategy. Done right it’s a powerful motivator, creating feelings of fulfilment, satisfaction, and - at times - urgency. But this can be a double edged sword.
The need for thoughtful gamification is even more important in the context of web3. Financialisation of the space compounds gamified drivers of urgency, and the possibility of real ownership on-chain raises the stakes of how legacy is crafted in your product.
We spend a lot of time jamming with our users, and one thing we quickly realised was the need to expand beyond just level-based achievements (Level 5, Level 10, Level 20, etc.). Yes, they’re super motivating, but over-indexed on the urgency side vs. the more thoughtful discovery we want to promote at Layer3.
From now on, you’ll start to see more ‘path’ or specialty based achievements (e.g. Ecosystem focused milestones) to celebrate a more considered exploration of the space. You’ll also see more diverse and ecosystem-centred rewards for those who’ve unlocked corresponding achievements as we continue to strike up more partnerships.
That said, in today’s release, we couldn’t resist starting with some community favourites… including, of course… one for the GM’ers 😉
Achievements celebrate your ongoing progress on Layer3, and showcase your web3 discovery journey.
As you you interact with more protocols, Dapps, and ecosystems through Layer3, you’ll collect more Achievements along the way - which serve as your ticket to lots of exclusive opportunities and on-chain rewards.
There are two types of Achievement on Layer3:
Core Achievements
Awarded when you complete a certain number of actions (e.g. your 5th Optimism Quest) or a specific action (e.g. complete a Quest on a weekend)
Quest Achievements
Awarded for completing certain Quests (e.g. Slingshot Swapper)
You can find your achievements on your Profile page
You can also see what you’ve unlocked, and your progress towards the next milestone, on the new Achievements page
Some achievements launching today:
GM Streak Milestones - e.g. hit a 30 day GM streak
Quester Milestones - e.g. complete your 10th Bounty
New Level Milestones - e.g. reach Level 30 on Layer3
…. and more!
Some achievements launching soon:
Ecosystem Exploration - e.g. complete your 5th Optimism Ecosystem Quest
Leaderboard Rankings - e.g. be ranked in the top 5,000 in a leaderboard
…. and more!
Your one stop shop to see all the Core Achievements available, and your progress towards them
To better display your Core and Quest Achievements - your Layer3 Legacy!
If you’re an existing Layer3 user - your Profile Page will have automatically updated with your new Achievements. Check out the Achievement page to see what’s next, and keep an eye out for more achievements landing over the coming weeks.
An expended set of Layer3 Core Achievements gives you more tools to reach, acquire and retain the right types of users - and you can tap in to them when designing your Campaign with us.
You can also add a branded Achievement to your Quest. Not only is this a great way to celebrate the users who completed your Campaign, but you can also assign Discord roles in your server based on your Layer3 achievement holders - great for keeping in contact or re-targeting those users with follow-up communications.
Stay tuned for a separate piece on all our learnings around gamification in the context of web3 (there’s far too much to cover here 😅)
